Puppy training comprises of 6-week courses consisting of 1-hour classes for puppies up to 6 months of age. I hold these in two locations: one in Botley on Tuesdays above the Co-op, Chapel Way, Botley OX2 0PZ, running from 7 pm to 8 pm.
Follow the signs to the Manna Café and for the Baptist Church. Use the door next to the shop door and go up to the first floor. There is a lift you may use if you wish.
The other is in Summertown on Wednesdays at Summertown Church Hall, Portland Road, Oxford OX2 7EZ, also running from 7 pm to 8 pm. The hall is on the corner of Portland Road and Banbury Road, in the lower hall, down the short ramp. Parking is to the side of the hall.
If your dog is over 6 months of age, please see the Dog Training Classes page.
The course is fun and enjoyable for you and your puppy. It is a structured course, each week progressing from the previous week. Therefore, it is important to attend all the classes so that you and your puppy benefit from the course. If you do have to miss a class, I am willing to do a “catch-up” session for you at your home for a charge of £20.
At the end of each class, comprehensive handouts are given detailing all exercises covered in the class and the methods of training to use as an aide-memoire when training your puppy during the week, so that your puppy is ready for the next class
The puppy course uses reward-based methods and covers socialisation, basic training, tips, and advice including:
“Stealing Things” and How to Take them from the Puppy
To Walk Under Control on a Loose Lead/Without a Lead
Recall/to Come Back When Called
To Leave Things Alone
To Stand for Veterinary Consultation or for Grooming
Not to Rush First Through Doorways
Please bring plenty of tasty, fresh food treats (e.g. chicken, sausage, ham, etc.), a lead, poopy bags, and your puppy!
All family members (children over 5 years of age) are welcome in the class. Children over 9 years of age may take part in training in the class.
The cost of the course is £90, to be paid in advance via PayPal or BACS. (Cancellation/refund is discretionary).
Is This Your First Puppy?
If you haven’t had a puppy before, or for a long time, you may benefit from an “Early Days” home visit just before, or just after you bring your puppy home so that you know how you’re going to start off with your new family member, including things like toilet training. This appointment will bring you lots of help, hints, and tips on the early days of having a new puppy. Plus help in getting you started and ready for puppy training. The appointment must be arranged by telephone or email, not through the puppy class booking system. My contact details are at the top of this page.
The price for an “Early Days” home visit is £35 to be paid by PayPal or BACS in advance of the home visit appointment (cancellation/refund is discretionary).
